Though long long ago My dad, on occasion, Did visit a Self Serve propane fill. Today we have laws, I might add these laws make great sense to me. ONLY Trained Certified technicians are allowed to fill cylinders..
You see, My dad, as an example, did not know about the visual overfill indicator valve (how many of you know what that is?, if you do not know, don't be pumping Propane)
(We pumped by weight and since the tank was EMPTY that was safe)
And today there is more.. For example, Did you know that some propane cylinders indicate that the owner is a CRIMINAL.. yes the propane cylinder says so. Or at least gives enough indication to seek a search warrant for where the cylinder was used.. Trained Pump Jockeys, Know how to "read" the indicator (I only know it because I was present during a class, I was not taking the class (I was doing what I'm doing now) but being a multi-tasker I listened to the instructor as I typed, even as I'm listening to Patrick Steward playing Scrooge as I type now).
So the law requires Pump Operators be "Certified" as knowing what they are doing.
