'Sharp' over stove convection/microwave oven problems

While on a trip last fall, something strange happened to the unit. While trying to convection heat a few potatoes, the oven would stop heating at one minute. Tried another way with microwave, unit runs one minute and shuts down. We 'can' hit the start button again and the unit will continue with the time counting down, but stops yet again at one minute. Regardless of setting, one minute is the run time...period. Heats just fine....for one minute...at a time. Any suggestions as to what the culprit might be? (Really don't want to try for another unit unless there's no other option.)

  • This is a common problem that is easy to fix. The 59 second symptom is well-documented on the internet for the Sharp units. You need to replace the damper motor. It is available for a reasonable price (around $25 if I remember correctly.) Many folks on other forums have posted step by step instructions for how to do it. The same damper motor also is used for the turntable. If you are handy at all, you can do it yourself.

  • Most under cabinet (like our GE MW)
Have a mounting bracket on the wall behind it
And have bolts or screws behind the exhaust vent facing at the top
That go thru to the mounting plate, or up thru the cabinet floor above the MW

It hangs on the wall bracket , with the front bolts holding the front up

Sorry about that. Kinda in a tither about this darn thing. OK, from the tag: Sharp Household Microwave Oven Model Nr. R-1870, Mfd. Mar, 2004.
Even though the tag doesn't say, it is a convection/microwave unit.

Thank you for that info. Just have to figure out how to get it out without tearing up the whole unit. :-))

You didn't post the model number but there were some Sharps that had that problem. The solution was to change control PCB.
  • Baaaaaaaaad board. Bad Board.

Remove. Open. Clean all dis-connectable plug connects. Use DeOxit D100L
  • Well, we did make a trip to Alabama so my wife could experience the ocean/beaches, and one stretch of road literally beat our rig with jackhammers. Suppose that might be the problem, but we have used it since the time without problems. As mentioned, this came on rather suddenly, one use to the next. Guess I'll have to get it checked out at Abe's RV Repair and see what the verdict is. Thank you.
