This is a common problem that is easy to fix. The 59 second symptom is well-documented on the internet for the Sharp units. You need to replace the damper motor. It is available for a reasonable price (around $25 if I remember correctly.) Many folks on other forums have posted step by step instructions for how to do it. The same damper motor also is used for the turntable. If you are handy at all, you can do it yourself.
