SHURFLO In-Line Check Valve Not working

Question

City water is leaking past the check valve on my surflo pump and filling up the holding tank. I added a SHURFLO In-Line Check Valve - 1/2" Barbs 340-001 to attempt to solve the problem. However, the new check valve does not "check". I did a search and the amazon reviews states that this is a common problem (38% poor reviews) with the shurflo check valve.

Any suggestion on a "good" check valve?

It probably just sucked up a piece of debris - usually plastic from the tank. Take the head of the pump apart and rinse all the parts off under water. I've done this several times over the years to fix that problem.

Most times just using the pump will clear 'check valve' of any debris/scale and allow it to fully close when pump is off.HERE is a in-line check valve
