Single waste tank for an RV

We camped in state parks without sewer, and used dump stations. It wasn't a problem.

Most trailers back then only had a single tank. As I recall, most of them had a black water tank, and the gray water bypassed the black water tank and just dumped on the ground. That became illegal around the mid 1970s.
I wouldn't want a combined tank because as you travel the sink and shower "P" traps will empty and the sewer gas from the black water tank will end up in your camper. The gray water is bad enough, but nothing like the black water.

Maybe it wasn't stock, and someone changed it over the years but our '66 had both grey water and black water going into one tank.

Our '74 Scotty had just one tank. We didn't like sharing though so we closed up the hole from the toilet and got a different toilet with a removable tank on the bottom - like a cassette toilet.

As most have said, a NON-issue. Virtually gone are the days of draining EITHER tank onto the ground.

Let me rephrase-- in 20+ years of RVing, including in Canada, U.S. and Mexico we have never dumped either on the ground.

We fill up our gray much faster than our black-- would prefer one tank with combined volume.

Gray tank odor is a LOT more offensive than Black tank odor because most RV'ers use Black tank chemical and none in the gray tank. IF you have a problem with water migrating from a P-Trap, you need to fix the problem. Water should NEVER migrate into the tank from a P trap. Doug

Maybe so but now illegal in most jurisdictions. Besides the OP subject is "one tank - so if you water trees you dump all the******you produce as well. Bad idea!

Us too. Back in the sixties and seventies many RVs only had a black tank. The gray tank consisted of a hose into the bushes.

The only time I won't do this is when we're in bear country.. But generally, I see no reason not to dump gray water on trees and whatever..

I like the 2 tank system as it allows me to keep things cleaner or at least clean easier. I dump the black tank and once it is empty I dump the grey tank which cleans the "sediment" left from the first flush. Quick and easy without much fuss.
