Solar Panel Mounting

I found it difficult to line up with too many of the rafters. I made sure that one of my three sets of mounts on each panel hit a rafter. I used screws with the widest threads I could find and put three in each mounting bracket with a bunch of Dicor. The ones that didn't hit a rafter are just into the thin plywood of the roof.

Any old place. They've held for 6000 miles so far.

One thing, however you locate them, is to be able to remove the panel without having to get the brackets out of the roof. Sometimes you have to check/fix the wiring under there.

here's what I made for mine there are 3 screws into the roof 1 1/2" angle and 1" flat bar the part on the roof 6" long and the one on the panel 3". these panels are 60 x36 and there are 3 sets on each panel.

Yeah, I wish I had done that.

I followed what mello mike did on his web site. I used 3m double sided tape with stainless steel screws. My front 2 screws did go in to the aluminum rafter cross piece, but the back 2 screws are just in to the plywood.

I'm not interested in mounting options as I know how I`m going to mount them. I'm simply asking about placement of the screws. In the deck randomly or in the rafters.
