Spring Goof....but my brain started before I ordered parts!
First camping of the season. Work out the kinks. Get back into the swing of things.Check out all the systems before any big summer trips. Okay?
Get backed into the fourth site I tried in a nearly empty State Park campground, only to realize I was going the wrong way and the sites were angled away from me! Okay,I didn't forget absolutely everything about backing a fiver over the winter!
Spend the night without the need for hot water. This morning, however the DW wants to clean up. Lets the water run till she feels warm coming, then hops in and gets wet, head-to-toe before the water turns to ice. After I climb down from the ceiling fan as a reaction to the scream, I switch from elec. to propane and wait a bit.
I empty the basement so I can get to the water heater. Check all the components, except this little black box. I've worked on hundreds of domestic water heaters of the 240 volt variety, and none of them had anything like this. Turns out it's a relay for the 120 volt system. I dion't have a way to test this easily, so I look for a tech sheet for my model on the internet.
Find, the PDF, download and open it. Find the relay and which leads need power to make the switch close. After figuring all that out I see a diagram at the bottom, labeled..... wait for this..... "Winterize" and "In Use"! Yep, You guessed it, I forgot to turn the by-pass valve back on before we left home. Just glad I didn't order a bunch of parts from Amazon, like I usually do!
Ok, I fessed up. Any more Spring boneheads out there? Come on, now Guys and Gals, I know I'm not alone. Anybody else willing to look stupid for the greater good?
