Spring hangers

Just noticed on our new to us 09 Cedar Creek that apparently has new axles, that the front left and right springs are bolted to the upper option while all the rest (other 4 points) are attached at the lowest option.???

Shouldn't they all be attached at the same point on the hanger?

I think it's a bit odd and I can't visualize a scenario where it would be required. If you're bothered by it (I would be) then it makes sense for both axles to be mounted similarly. I would opt to use the higher set of holes since there would be less lever effect on the spring hangars closest to the frame.

There are some brands of trailers that have the two sets of holes. The idea being that if the truck is high and causes the trailer to ride high in front a person can adjust the height easily, without welding spacers to the frame. Good idea in my mind.
I also believe that all the bolts should be in the same level.
  • It is common that front "fixed" spring mounts are higher to compensate for equalizer height, but without a picture we can only guess what setup you are dealing with.
Main point is to have equalizers horizontal under the load.

  • You mean the hangers have more than one hole in them for attaching the springs/shackles?
  • Haven't really done any measurements on level ground yet but when i pulled it home i figured it was lower at the front
  • Yes probably but not a huge deal.
    Are the center equalizers level?
Is the trailer level when connected?
