Squeege Frustrations

Buncha Junk and I'm frustrated.

The rubber seems about right for use in leveling hot asphalt out of a paving machine. But to conform -reasonably- to a curved windshield seems beyond car parts store inventory selection.

I've made a plastic scrubber pad on the end of a 36" piece of schedule 80 PVC tubing and it works great.

Whatever happened to silicone squeeges? Do they make anything that has say a 12-14" wipe width that actually works?

A roll of paper towels down here costs three to five dollars and has the consistency of wet then dried USA paper towels. I just cannot reach with microfiber towels although they do a great job in the glass within arm distance.

I'll fit a normal length handle squeegee with a PVC extension handle. I cannot handle the windshield curve on the outside that is the part that drives me nuts...

    I blame the rock-hard water down here for making window washing more of a chore than it should be.

    Minerals not iron. Scrub down a window and let it air dry and the film is so bad, it's awful to see through when sunshine is playing on the glass. Drinking glasses have to be rubbed dry. Seven PSI is not enough for a softener to work. And water is too pricey to flush a softener.

    So, wash a window then rush to dry it. Soap is useless. Adding Grain vinegar to the seems to help. I have a TDS meter, and select the planta de agua purificaca with the fewest dissolved minerals for my BiPAP.

    Home Depot or Lowes in the cleaning section, get the ones used for window cleaning. The rubber is very flexible and does a great job. They run around $14.00. They also have the cleaning clothes too.

    I get my squeegees at Home Depot. They have the thin-bladed pro-style that the auto parts stores don't have and they work perfectly. I tried an ACE Hardware brand and it was like the OP described.

    Try your local boating supply stores (West Marine?), as the recreational boating industry has been using the silicon T-Blade/water blade squeegee's (in various sizes), for decades. They work great and not just on glass. When I wash our Class C or the cars I use the blade to wipe away excess water from the all of the surfaces. Mine is at least 15 years old and still works just fine but they are a little pricey, (about $30 as I recall).

    Years ago I had a squeegee that used ordinary windshield wiper frames and blades. It worked quite well on curved windows, as I recall. The handle eventually fell apart, but I bet it wouldn't be too difficult to fabricate one. The newer style frameless blades would likely be a good choice to use.

    I too have given up on inflexible squeegees. I use a plastic mesh wrapped sponge on a pole to clean the rounded portions of the windshield. I then squeeze it out and drape a micro-fiber cloth over it to dry the windshield.

    Could you attach a small windshield wiper to a pole?
