Suburban Furnace Recall

I received an email today from ThorCa, telling me there is a recall notice about my Suburban Furnace (not water heater). They are asking me to verify that there is an exterior furnace vent installed.

I'm looking for help on what to look for, to find the exterior furnace vent. I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack when it comes to mechanical stuff on my TT, so thanks in advance for your help.

I'm wondering if the tube is hooked up and that is what the problem is.

2007 Sptinter. Suburban propane heater didn't start up when I put up thermostat. Problem was a flapper vent, it is like a sail needs to move freely. Mine was fixed under warranty.

This is a interesting post. I have a 2004 Salem & the surburban heater quit working completely a yr ago. It has a outie and a innie on the outside. However I am in a location at the moment where there is no RV dealerships that can fix it. So Im out in the cold so to speak, but if this furnance cause's this type of problem, and they fix it, and it happens again, I'd rather stick with space heaters then to get torched.

Sorry N3YMY, I have to disagree!
This is an RV MANUFACTURING DEFECT...pure & simple!

I work on these furnaces and have read the install manuals. They are clear and precise in the steps needed to install the vents. Suburban should not get their name soured because someone at the rv manufacturing plant is not doing their job!

disagree.

Keystone had a similar issue with suburban furnances, not nearly as eas to detect/observe without disassembly though.

Makes you wonder, why did two different rv manufactures make the same mistake ?

This thread is sorely mislabeled.

There is NOT a Suburban recall, theres a recall on some installations on rigs.

Nothings wrong with the furnaces. Suburban ought to be taking this forum to task for advertising such a thing.

I found out that my camper came from Skyline with no exhaust vent for the furnace. I sent them pics and they agreed. However since it is 10 years old they will not pay for the $29 vent. Seems crazy to me because this could have burnt down the camper or killed someone rather easy.

I just purchased a used Skyline Weekender truck camper. When I went to see it and he had the heater running with the door of the camper so I didn't think anything of it. When I got it home I tried out the heater and it took many times to start. The flames kept going out. Everything I read on said to clean it out and check the vents. So I took the unit out and to my supprise there was no exhaust vent. The Suburban heater has the pipe in the back and there is a hole in the inner wall but inside the hole was insulation and no hole going outside. I assume this is why the unit didn't want to stay lit because there was no place for the exhaust to go. I am not sure at this point if he had siding work done and it is his fault or if it is Skylines fault but I will find out soon.

Didn't one of the TT companies do the same thing a couple years back?

Just talked to Suburban MFG. Co. and the last recall they had on a furnace was in the late seventies, the recall that people are referring to is the trailer manufacture Thor, when installing the Suburban furnace on line at the factory they forgot to cut the hole in the side of the trailer for the furnace exhaust vent, therefore the exhaust gases which is carbon monoxide and is deadly will be dumping into the trailer. Suburban has always been a good furnace and the technicians have always been really good about taking care of their custromer's.This needs to read THOR MANUFACTURING RECALL NOTICE
