A bad thermocouple won't cause it to sputter. There is probably a adjustment for the pilot. On mine the adjustment is on the oven burner control valve. It is a small screw that is very hard to adjust with the valve installed. If there is a propane dealer close by they will be able to do it or you can take it to a RV repair shop.
