Tail lights inoperative

Red tail lights and rear side marker lights won't come on with head light switch. Tech spent an hour and half unsuccessful trying to find cause. Anybody have experience with this problem? Thanks.

    All better! Found blown fuse.
    Thanks for all your feedback.

  • Check for good ground also. Tail lights might be getting ground from a single connection to the chassis in the rear somewhere. If the fuse is OK and you can measure 12V at a bulb measuring to ground (try a bolt on the bumper) and not at the negative on the socket I would check the ground wire for corrosion or breakage.
  • QUESTION

Do you have tail light electricity at the TRAILER plug-in connector? Check the wiring at this socket very carefully.
  • If no Dash Lights (Speedo Gauges etc) Check for bad fuse. Dash, Dome, Parking, and Tail Lights are usually on one fuse 15-20Amp.

With Toad plugged in you maybe overloading it and popping the fuse. Or if, just back Taillights not working look for loose/dirt Grounding wire under MH Chassis near wiring loom area.

    Good luck.
  • Do the front marker lights come on? If so, I suspect a broken wire under the RV somewhere between the 2 sets of lights.

You talking the tail lights on the motorhome or the towed vehicle behind it??

Usually there is a few on some RV's in a rear compartment for protection of the rear lights.

I kept tracing problems like this and not getting anyway. Finally went down to the local auto parts place and picked up one of these 7-way testers. Also available from ETRAILER.com or AMAZON. Great troubleshooting tool to have in your RV tool box.

This tells you if the problem is on the truck side or the trailer side. Helps narrow it down. My problem ended up being a bad socket on the trailer side.

OOPS DISREGARD my post - I didn't notice it was a motorhome - Thanks Ranger Smith...
