Are you saying that your *converter* alone was stalling the generator?
Yes. If the generator was idling with no load while the econo switch was on, plugging in the trailer would cause it to cut out. I can't recall if it stalled or whether the overload circuitry kicked in. In any case, if I turned the econo switch off it handled the charging without a hiccup.
