I agree with everything you wrote with one exception and that is your response above.
To the average user or consumer the difference is the ONLY thing that is applicable - meaning they expect the inverter to work at least as well as the synchronous unit. You and I know the differences, but how many consumers understand?
Like I said, "the lay-person" when it comes to Medicine. ;)
