Just my two cents worth, but given the reliability issues that some folks have noted with the baseline yellow CPE 2000i models and the subsequent upgrades that presumably address those issues, it would be useful in this forum if contributors could post what version of the generator they are running.
My first post in this thread, but this is the thread that brought me to this forum. When I was looking at purchasing one of these generators I did a Google search and found this topic. I read all the post and then decided to buy this generator. I have followed this thread since.
I fear that most people will only post in here if they are having problems. hence why it seems so many people are having issues. You typically wont hear from people that have no issues. I am guilty of that myself.
I bought my unit at Costco in Aug last year. I have about 80 hours on my unit with no troubles what so ever. As Prof has said on countless occasions, this generator is not a product for direct competition to the Red and Blue's. I bought it to charge my batts and provide 110 for small appliances and I am very happy with it.
Ian,
Very nice post. I like to look first in the profile of a poster I do not remember. While there I read through your posts. Quite enjoyable. Your good words about the Champion 2000i are what we all look for. BUT, for me, sometimes first time posters make me wonder as we don't have many follow ups and they do not post to any other threads. Just makes me wonder, that's all, nothing more. Glad you now have 80 good time hours on your unit. Seems the early reports on the Champion 2000i were as you say, from folks not so happy. As the reports go, many were returned by unhappy owners. Some quit, others reported they would not operate a 1100w microwave, others could not charge their batteries or operate their 55a Charger/Converters. Others not happy with the lower output than expected. One posters unit smoked while trying to charge his batteries and had to be returned. The Champion 2000i is said to be a brand new Inverter Generator, from the ground up. So, would we not expect to have some failures? The first units out are said to have a 250 ms module and later units have the 400 ms module? One poster mention a 800 ms module. Or maybe they just offer the exchange if you ask. All that, for what ever it's worth. That is the reason for asking the build dates. Updates to the Champion 2000i are posted but no build dates I can find for those updates.
FWIW, I find no one who has an updated 2011 model. That is why I ask if the Champion 2000i, is at this time, in production. It has been mentioned I believe, that Champion (CPE) will have new models. I'll wait for now on buying any brand Inverter. I am, a happy owner of the Champion C46540. Have always been satisfied with (CPE) CS and have a large 'Yellow and Black Champion Flag'.
