Thetford 300 toilet seat loose

As the subject says the seat is loose and because of the design and proximity to the wall it is impossible to get your fingers in the small space to tighten it up. I am thinking the only way to do it is to remove the whole unit, tighten it and then re install. Rather not do that if I don't have to. has anyone found a way or improvised a tool to do it?
  • Sorry to all. It is actually an Aquamagic Residence toilet. Screws for the toilet seat are part of the seat and do not have heads with a screw slot in them. I may try to make a tool to get in there.
  • Thetford doesn't have a 300
    Dometic/Sealnd has the 300 series

Toilet seat bolts have snap in covers....remove them, use a screw driver to tighten bolts while holding nuts with your hand

Just reach under along side sliding hand back until you can grip nuts.
Just plastic bolts/nuts and can be tighten by hand

Otherwise you will need to disconnect water supply line, remove the hold down bolts in base, lift toilet up and remove.....careful of floor flange gasket
Tighten seat bolts/nuts ...reinstall...same floor gasket IF in good shape.

  • Basin wrench too big. About enough room to get a socket on it but not anything much bigger. Toilet has a plastic shroud around it that is part of the toilet and supposedly cannot be separated.
  • If it is the electronic type unit, take the screws out of the bottom and slide it out. Then inspect those screws to see if they need to be replaced. If not, put some silicon lube or grease and reinstall.
