Thetford Aqua Magic II Foot Flush Lever

For those of you that have a Thetford Aqua Magic II that have a problem with the ball seal not closing all the way or the foot lever coming off, I have developed a somewhat easy fix. My problem was not the seal, it was the foot lever itself. The foot lever is built like a honeycomb on the inside. There is a places in the honeycomb where the water valve actuator, the spring end and the ball valve actuator fit. My problem was that the ball valve would not close and the water would not turn off. I solved it initially by lifting up the lever. After a few days of that, the lever came off. I tried several fixes but none would last. The cause was that the wall of the honeycomb where the spring pressed against was thin and collapsed through a lot of use. The spring was tapered where it pressed against the plastic and pushed the lever off its shaft. I finally solved the problem by heating the collapsed plastic and forced a small steel nut in the cavity as a reinforcement. I reinstalled the lever but it still would come off after several actuation's. I solved this by drilling a hole in the lever on the outside and inserting a sheet metal screw, with a washer under the head, long enough go through the pivot tube to allow it to screw into the bottom of the hole. After I did this, I no longer have the problem. Also, the procedure for re-installation of the lever can be viewed at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/99485672/instr.jpg
  • This can be very useful. Our pedal came off and after many attempts by Camping World to fix the thing, they gave us a new toilet. Lucky it was still under warranty. I will certainly keep this info for when this new one breaks.
  • Thanks for posting this fix. I installed the same toilet in our MH last year and haven't had the problems you describe (yet).
