Eastern Marine is another good source for trailer brakes and other parts. I've signed up on their email list. They don't bombard me with messages, and often have some good sale prices.

Have been told you can use 7000 lb 12/2 they have bigger magnet.

Believe that the trailer industry standardized all parts sizes years ago. There have been lots of complaints on line about weak brakes on Lippert axles so I checked out Dexter to see if I could improve the braking on my 5200 Lipperts. In a 12x2 Dexter offers 5200, 6000, and 7000 lb rated linings. On line they don't seem to indicate any difference in the magnet, but their support folks readily said that if I wanted more aggressive braking, I should just go straight to the 7000 lb product. I got the whole backing plate installed and went with the forward self adjusting product for just a few dollars more. Still getting them broken in but already have a little more brake than the 5200s. Trying to get to the point where I can get the controller off 10 and the trailer is still braking its share.

Do keep in mind that great electric brakes is a combination of both electrical and mechanical parts working together. If one has weak electrical and upgrades the mechanics, their improvement gain isn't very much. Since upgrading mechanical area (re: larger size brake assemblies), recommend upgrading its electrical wiring as well. re: Replace default factory linear design with much better thicker wire using STAR design. If wondering, all of my trailers (RV, boat, utility) have been upgraded to STAR design. Much better braking power - even with factory size brake assemblies.

IMHO trailer brakes are the most unsafe part of our trailers.

I've had drum brake fade down long descents and greased brakes from a bad seal. Disc brakes should fix the fade and probably fix (or at least reduce) the greased brake problem.

I've also had broken brake wires but that's an issue with both technologies.

US$1550 for this upgrade doesn't seem that unreasonable to me, but it's still a lot of money (especially for us Canadians). This upgrade is definitely on my wish list.
