Trouble with Onan 5500

My Onan Marquis Gold 5500 LP generator starts great, runs maybe 10 minutes, starts popping (like backfire) winds down and quits running. It'll start ok again then repeat. Unit only has 22 hours run time. What could be causing this?

It does sound like fuel starvation. If your genny is gasoline fueled, it could be that the gas tank is not venting. Try running the genny with the gas cap loose or removed. If that solves the problem, then replace the gas cap. If the problem still occurs, your might try changing the fuel filter.

Good luck.

I'll SWAG a propane regulator/air in the line. Last time I ran mine it started with the popping you describe but then smoothed out after a minute or so. I chalked it up to air in the propane line. We'll see how it acts the 1st of next month when I exercise it again.
