Two furnace thermostats need help

I have a 1987 dodge xplorer xtravan not sure of the model number but that shouldn't matter. My problem is that I have two thermostats for the furnace I don't have AC. One has the power switch for the furnace fan and the other is just a normal thermostat but for the life of me I can't figure out how to use them. Can someone give me a run down on how to use two thermostats for the one furnance. Is one for when txt kick on the fan to blow hot air and the other is the temp setting for the heat. I'm just
Unsure I have never ran into this problem before. Thank you for your help and happy RV'ing
  • Are you positive BOTH tstats operate 1 furnace? NO furnace will have 2 tstats. Either another one was added and the original left in place or the 2nd tstat may control a roof Vent. The fantastic tstat controlled roof vents, the tstat looks like a furnace tstat. Doug
  • Not sure about the power switch for the fan, but the heat only thermostats are just simple switches between a hot and return, so wire two thermostats in parallel, either can call for heat, but one cannot shut the other off.

Are you sure they are both for the furnace?
  • Chris Bryant hit it right on. We Xplorer owners are familiar with this set up. There should be a fan powered roof vent which will be connected to a thermostat. ON/OFF switch may or may not exist on the thermostat that is connected to it but once the fan is ON and spinning, you should be able to regulate the temperature that it will shut down when the setting is reached. You can confirm that the T stat is part of the fan circut by sliding the temp adjustment thru the setting incraments after you have the fan on. The switch should be both on. The one on the fan itself, off hi low and maybe med, and the on/off ON at the thermostat. The thermostat switch is to acivate the sensor for temp control. It needs to be in the off position when not usuing the fan as it will draw power and eventually kill the battery.

Really? Chris was right on? I thought I posted about the roof fan:B Doug
  • Doug actually got it first, but his post s get lost in the ether sometimes :)
Right now I suspect he has posted, but it's not showing up (post count and visible posts differ).
I'm posting this right under chaingangs post, but in a while a post will appear between them.

You are right. I think my posts are held up for the Admin review. The Admin do not like me and they delete or modify my posts. Doug
