WARNING large inverter chargers
Hi folks,
This warning may apply to anyone who has a large inverter charger of any make.
I got lucky today.
I was running the generator (Yamaha 3000 sIEB) and roof air and using the Magnum to charge the battery bank.
I had to go do some chores, so I dutifully shut down the Magnum from load support mode, and shut down the generator.
The case on the Magnum was at 41 C (104 f), so I had made as much room as I could around it to help with cooling.
I came back to find soot up the wall above the Magnum and the plastic where the DC cables enter melted.
Not suprizingly I've let the magic blue smoke out.
Fortunately everything is "plug and play" so I was able to wire around the Magnum in 20 seconds.
It will be a two thousand dollar lesson--but that is better than coming back to a melted frame on the ground.
I enjoyed the features of the Magnum. My concern is that someone else not might be so lucky as I was.
At smk's suggestion I've reached out to Magnum.
