water pump maintenance

On my rig there is a valve between the water pump/filter and the water tank. Allows me to shut off the water supply to the pump.

Mine always makes more noise when the tank is near empty. They are simple to take apart and clean the rubber diaphragm inside. You can check the rubber mounting points also. Having let mine run out of water and left valves open slightly I like to be able to hear mine when it is running to alert me to turn things off.

Sometimes the way the water pump is mounted makes different noise levels when running... I have a section of RUG under mine...

My water pump has the Valve and hose to stick down into a winterize jug. Sometimes the value switch for this gets bumped and has a small air leak which makes a different noise in the pump...

This is also a good place to check if the freshwater tank is not picking up good - You can switch to the water jug and see how it works picking up water from it... If the motor sounds good doing this might be some sort of blockage towards the fresh water tank.

If the pump is lower, yes you will need to drain the tank.

thanks and that makes since, (unless there is a shut off)

Like I said I found the pump. Now that I am really looking at doing this, there is no filter\strainer basket installed at the pump. Any thoughts on where else could it be installed?

Should be near the input to the pump
Unless one was placed near the output of the tank
The filter screen for ours, is at the pump input/inlet

Strainer screen on my pump is screwed between the pump and intake connector. it is small, 2.5" or so, easy to miss.

Or could be a filter screen basket was never installed. My last TT never had one and I never had a problem in ten years of use. Now my new TT has one screwed directly onto the inlet side of the pump.

I have opened every access panel I can find and still no strainer basket. Must not have one. Now I guess I need to take out the pump to clean it or replace it.
