Update.....was able to just remove the front piece of the pump without removing the pump. Just had a little bit of water come out. Was actually a very easy job, about 15 mins total. It appears to have fixed the problem of city water filling my fresh water tank! $10 fix!

Be prepared for the "fix" to fail again. It is a good pump with a weak check valve system.
A stand-alone check valve will be a more semi-permanent repair.
This is the check valve that I used, and you can see it plumbed in the following photos.

It is a Camco 23303 1/2" Back-Flow Preventer check valve connected to the output side of the water pump.
