Which direction can Honda EU2200i be tipped?

I just purchased a Honda EU2200i that will travel with me in my NL TC. It will be stored in the genset box when traveling. In order to fit through the door, I will have to tip it a bit. I know the grnerator can be tipped to drain the oil, but I'm wondering if that is the best direction to tip it, or if it should tip the other way in this case? Or, does it matter? I have some small equipment that drain fuel when tipped the wrong way, so I thought it would be good to check experienced users (the dealer had no idea).
  • I was planning on running it in the "fuel off" mode to drain the bowl prior to storage. Oil getting to places it should not is one of my concerns. i know the genset can be tipped toward the oil drain sode safely by design.

The float bowl is vented on top to atmosphere through the overflow tube so fuel can get into the float bowl. If you tilt the gen enough, fuel will run out but only the small amount (maybe one ounce) that is in the bowl.

Next to the overflow/vent tube is the bowl Drain tube. Loosen this screw at the bowl bottom and let the gas out of the bowl and tighten. Now you can tilt it and no gas will leak out.

External leaks are one thing, but oil getting into the cylinder and other places might be a problem.

  • And I’m guessing that fuel was already in the drain hose, it just came out because you tipped it the right way to break the suction, kinda like pouring ketchup from a bottle.

If you just need to tip it as you put it through the door I don’t think you have anything to worry about no matter which way you do it.
  • When I tipped mine yesterday to drain the oil, I tipped it about 90 degrees to get all the break in oil out......a small amount of fuel came out the carb drain hose (to be expected) but that was extreme as it was on its side.
  • If I were you I'd tip it one way or the other as a test and see if anything drips.
