Why did Onan kill the EC-30W generator controller?

Question

Looks like Onan killed the EC-30W generator controller. Right now, the alternatives are either the Onan EC-30, or the Magnum Energy generator controller, plus the control panel.

I wonder why Onan killed it. It seemed to have made life easy for a number of reasons.

As of 12/15/2015 this wireless Energy Command part is now obsolete with no replacement. Onan is in the process of preparing the release of a smartphone app that will replace these. No more new or replacement units are available.  Doug

Blah.  Maybe I might just see about a wired unit then.  It is more reliable anyway, and much harder to hack.
