- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerWhen I installed electric meters on my park sites, some gringos rebelled indignantly. I posted electrical rates exactly the same as what I was being charged. Then I reduced rates from 250 pesos per day to 170. When a forty foot rig departed with a cursing owner I saved money. Canadians loved the arrangement.
Some larger rigs were using SEVENTEEN TIMES the kWh as my residence. Six hundred dollars worth a month. ONE HUGE RIG. Then some complained I should provide free 240 50 amp service. Yeah like I was going to pay 200 dollars a month out of pocket for their extravagance. - wildtoadExplorer IIA prime example of when it's free/included people will use more than when they have to pay separately or dare I say it work for it.I don't open the windows or doors, but I do set the thermostat lower than I would at home.
I also use more water when I'm on sewer than I do when having to use the tanks. Not a cost issue but a pain if the tanks fill up. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerJi ji ji (Spanish for hee, hee, hee)
If you only knew how much pollution is created in the manufacture of solar panels, and batteries you would faint dead away.
The only "cleaner" energy is hydroelectric or wind.
An RV that is not the primary residence is the EPITOME of brown ecology.Oh dang, that's right, I plumb forgot about aircraft carrier size super mega yachts. Stinkpots. - kellertx5erExplorer

RVers going round and round about being wasteful. Carry on, the entertainment is excellent. :)
Which reminds me of the folly that is RVers who spend untold $$$ on solar panels and LED lighting so they can be 'green'. (Yes I am aware that 'some' are boondockers trying to survive without a generator) - westendExplorer
Several years ago I rolled Quicksilver, a pearlescent metalflake IMRON painted rig with polished aluminum wheels into a dump of a campground next to US 101 in Sausalito. The owner of the dump looked at my registation card and sniffed " We do not allow RVs older than six years on the premises. "Premises my ass!" I yelled. "This dump is 2 acres of gravel polluted with near lethal levels of carbon monoxide!"
Nominated for post of the week. If there is a sticky for RV campground age restrictions, this should go right on the top. - tpiExplorerI'll heat off the campground power in winter. But not waste heat or AC by having windows open when running it (exception short term cooking ventilation). I'm stingy with the AC in campgrounds-I don't like the cycling when it is borderline, would prefer open windows and the fans running.

The justifications, rationalizations, and denials abound. Waste is waste whether the other guy is paying for it or not
There is no waste if the doors have plexiglass panels in them
I run my generator for my A/C
But I can run my fans from inverter power and do so with the Windows open
You got it! There is no waste unless the doors and windows are open, just like the OP asked about. They are clearly (pun intended) not open if they are closed with plexiglass or whatever. Hey, I ran my AC with the door slightly open the first time I had someone else paying for the electric. I don't anymore. - SkiingSixPackExplorer

How do you know the ac is on versus just the fan? I run my rooftop fan often with the windows open, it moves a lot of air.
Took the words right out of my mouth. We do this alot..... - MrWizardModerator

Yay you've scored points.
Next step upward...
"I have people who do that for me"
Airlifting by Sky crane helicopter a sliced-off condominium bristling with parabolic dishes, a dishwasher that doesn"t keep asking for a raise, and entertainment enough fit for a kindergarten is the antithesis of what RV'ing used to stand for. When I take my rig, it's up at dawn time outside with a cup of coffee looking for strange new plants and animals. Beachcombing, fishing, and outdoor actvities unique to Mexico. Some folks remind me of Aldous Huxley's sense of perception. I have my areas of expertise. When people start arguing that "reality isn't acceptable" then that's when my interest vanishes. I have a saying AMERICANS PLAN / MEXICANS IMPROVISE.

Common sense has gone extinct I fear.
