Why do People run AC with doors and windows open??

Pogoil

We notice lately that many run the AC with their windows and door open.
Why would one be so wasteful?

No wonder rates continue to rise.

We can waste all we want, someone else will pay for it. Won't they? Looks like a couple of people have gotten defensive about being called out for the practice. We have unlimited, clean, free energy available to all. Let's see how much we can use before the other guy gets to it.

I find it just a teeny bit hypocritical that folks that drive huge, lumbering, Fuel Guzzling vehicles, like many of us do, that spew tons of exhaust into the air and cannot be called efficient by anyones standard, wax so eloquent on the terrible, criminal wastefulness of a fellow "camper" using their aircon with a window open.

Oh! the wasting of the precious non renewable resources!

You,d be far better off taking GSE to task for the tons of unwanted junk mail they produce and send out.

C'mon.

X2 on MAYBE it's just the fan on to help circulate air thru the unit? How can you tell for sure, you can't hear the compressor run from outside the unit.
Running just the fan doesn't cause condensation to run from under the air conditioner shroud and drip from the roof of the RV.

So you actually are that worried about it that you watch to see if water is dripping from one of the corners of an RV?

Wow, some of you people really need to get a hobby and mind your own business. Everyone once in a while the grumpiness and miserableness just ooze from this site.
No, I'm not worried in the least bit. I merely answered the question that We Cant Wait asked. An observation from running my own air conditioner. :R

Sheesh, it doesn't take anything at all to set you off.:S

If it is yours and you pay for it or maintain it, You tend to be respectful CLOSE THE DOOR type respectful

But if it's rented well.. It's not your problem.. If you are not paying for it, Who cares? Don't worry about it.

Fact is the person who cares is the next person since the rates may go up to clean up your mess or pay your bills.

I was in a campground once where I got very low water pressure.. Reported to office.. Turns out someone unhooked and left the spigot open running freely.

Same mind set.. All I can say (this is one fine curse by the way) is may they receive their eternal reward

(It is a fine curse because in the due course of time they WILL receive said reward and even more so because if you misdirect it against someone that is good it automatically turns into a blessing as GOD decides who gets wich)

Don't know but I do notice that many younger people will just run AC all of the time even if outside temp is cool. Either they just don't think about it or don't really care if they save $10 or $20 a month or don't have a clue how much it cost to run. Most of us seniors were raised to save whenever possible.

I do it so I keep the fresh air flowing in the trailer. I've already paid for the electricity in my nightly camping fee.

It may seem selfish or wasteful but I usually only have the main screen door latched and no other windows open. I still need to go in and out and it also allows a lot of light in during the day.

X2 and yes, I do this at home too.

I like to leave the water running so it's always cold. Keeps fresh water flowing through my system too.

One of my Snowbird renters had the heater going and two A/C going at the same time this past winter in Yuma. I asked her "why" ? She said it got two cold then two hot. The heat and elect was included in the rent. Most of my rentals have separate elect meters but this unit does not. I just charge more per month. It takes all kind and I have seen most of them

It used to be just plain ignorance. In the early days of car a/c, I remember many folks running it with the windows open.

Doors open on the RV just means insects getting in.

Me?

Ooooooooo I'd just LOVE to pay the twenty dollars tacked onto the daily fee to try and cover the park monthly electrical cost. Pretty fartsmeller drive up cost of utilities. Next: Consume 200 gallons of water daily to wet down site to suppress dust.

One more great reason for doing it would be to let lots of warm moist air into the rv to keep it from getting too dry inside. If you like to run the AC with the door wide open, let her rip. Maybe the noise is a pest repellent? Lots of wonderful reasons.

When we do our budgets and set our prices we always consider the worst case scenario, so we always budget an increase in electrical consumption. If someone wants to air condition the great outdoors at my parks, it is safe to say everyone in the park is paying for that privilege.

X2 BTW. If I see someone doing this, I will go up and ask them so I can let everyone here know the reason.

Why do people run the a/c with doors and windows wide open?

We do it when we want a fast cool down of the RV, when the temps outside are cooler than inside. This happens when we have been driving for hours or when we have been out and about all day. The RV cools down faster and we have it on less in the long run. We don't leave it running all day when we are gone which is just as wasteful. Our thermostat is set at 76 rather than the typical 71 degrees.

More than half of our power consumption is power we make ourselves - through our solar panels (2/3s of our time is spent dry camping). Since we full time, we aren't heating and cooling an additional 2000 sq. ft. house while we are 'camping.' We have a carbon footprint that is less than 1/10 of the average American household. So, before you point fingers at the wastefulness of others, please check yourself first.
