when I winterized my ice maker, I just disconnected it at the solenoid at the outside access door, put a hose valve on it, squirted out some pink stuff and closed the hose valve. I let the refrigerator end of it just drain out. I assume that the piping on the inside of the freezer gets cold under normal use so going thru the winter wouldn't be any different.
