Winterizing - water pump pumping wrong direction

My husband and I are winterizing our coachmen clipper for the first time. We're almost ready to pump the anti freeze in, but the pump seems to be pumping in the wrong direction. Anyone have any ideas?

I’m a little confused by your post, if you were only “almost“ ready to pump anti-freeze in how do you know which direction it’s pumping?
  • @JaxDad, because when we turn on the pump and the pump is in the anti freeze it is pumping air into the anti freeze instead of pumping the anti freeze into the system.
  • If you can look towards the bottom of the fresh tank there should be pepcock or something similar to just turn to shut off the fresh tank feed and draw from the antifreeze bottle.
  • It would not surprise me one bit to find out a manufacturer (any of them) installed the draw tube on the wrong side. It would be easy to do if your stupid and/or dont care - like RV assemblers.
There are little arrows on the pump itself indicating the direction of flow. You may have to may a correction.
  • If you have a winterizing kit installed, it may be on the wrong side of the pump. If you are connecting direct to the pump, with another fitting, you are likely using the pump OUT, rather than IN to the pump.

  • I'd love to see a picture of the pump and hoses!
Reminds me of the person who posted a concern here a while back and turned out their water heater bypass valves were installed in wrong places.
    Quality is job one!

Just an example...on my previous FW, the city water hookup was plumbed into a hot water line. Using city, all faucets were reversed, hot was cold, cold was hot. The toilet flush was hot water! Using fresh tank/pump, everything was normal. Ya, that was a head scratcher, after using the new FW the first few times with fresh tank, and then next time with city hookup.
