- N6WTExplorerSo I went out and turned off the charger part of the inverter/charger and the fan stays on. At this point I am thinking it is a bad thermostat that just causes the fan to run all the time. The batteries are fine the output on the charger is fine. I guess I will go on vacation and hope the fan does not burn out. I will call Xantrex when I get back to see what they say.

I will check with a meter later.
Thanks - Anyway to verify output amps?
- N6WTExplorerThanks all for the reply's.
The fan never turns off. It comes on the about 30 seconds after I plug it in. My batteries are fully charged. All green on the display. I have lots of room around it and I can put my hand on it and it is cold. - Golden_HVACExplorerHi,
When my inverter/charger is putting out more than 40 amps, then the fan comes on, especially if warm in the basement. If less than 40 amps, normally the fan stays off. My inverter is a Trace M1512 with a 70 amp max charger rate.
If you have a shorted cell, or dry battery, or something wrong with a battery, then your charger might be putting out near max amps for a while. If the battery voltage is less than 11.9 when you start charging, then normally it will go to the maximum output, even if the battery is otherwise in great condition. Max output normally means the fan should be on.
On a hot day, say 90F near the charger, then the fan might run at only 50% of it's max output, until it cools down a bit.
Fred. - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIFan is running cause charger is running.......how low is your battery voltage?
Check each battery cell........may have a shorted cell causing charger to run.
LED status.....solid green, solid red, blinking ?????? - wolfe10ExplorerActually, what is the CHARGE RATE? If it is charging at a high rate, the fan on is normal.
Also, what is air circulation around the inverter-- they do produce heat when either inverting or charging at high rate. - 2oldmanExplorer IIWhat does your manual say?
