I have a 2011 RAM 3500 (diesel) that I use to pull a 7000 lb travel trailer. I am using the original OEM brake controller. I do not feel that it is providing the proper and consistent trailer brake response.
Am I expecting too much or is it time to consider a newer technology brake controller.
Thank you.

In my experience brake controllers don’t gradually wear out.
That said do some reading. I thought there was some years that Dodge or Ram had sub standard brake controllers. Could be imagining it. And if it used to work great then imo it’s likely something downstream of the controller. As suggested above.

And it’s not obsolete technology. A functional brake controller from 1985 would lock up your brakes if the brakes are good.
I feel like I say this a lot on here. If you want more or better help online you need to be far more descriptive.
example, we have no idea if you just bought the truck, or it’s worked fine for you for the last 13 years until last Thursday or something in between.
Don’t know if your camper is new, or if it’s also from 1985 and never had the brakes maintained or repaired. Or if they worked good last month and you had the brakes “fixed” 2 weeks ago….or something in between.

Are your brakes adjusted properly? Have you adjusted the gain properly? Have you made sure all four brakes are operational? I am still happy with the brake controller in my 2011
