New tow vehicle

Hello friends,

Last week I decided to make the deal and trade in my 2008 2500 CTD for this 2017 Ram 3500 SLT diesel. The 2008 only had 135 000 km (85 000 miles), but it was beginning to feel out-of-date, and when factoring in its strong trade-in value, and the fact that it'd cost me a few thousand to upgrade the sound system, the seats, etc, this made more sense. I won't be towing with it for a few months, but I think it'll be a breeze!

Kevin

Thanks, guys. I wonder how easy it is for a professional to install a B&W Companion, in the future, of course....!!

Did not HAVE TO do anything. I like to over do it. It has served me well.

YES I did have good luck with my 68rfe towing 28-29K combine for over half of the 65K I owned it. I removed the MagHytec double deep trans pan just before trading, this is what it looked like with at least 50K on the AMZ/OIL Universal ATF.

I pulled the drain plug then removed the pan, I did NOT pour out the fluid.

I would HIGHLY recommend AMZ/OIL SevereGear 75-90 front axle and same for rear towing occasionally but towing heavy or a lot use 75-110. Get rid of the OE lube within 5K as it is NOT a quality GL.

That's a shame you have to do all this to keep your transmission happy.

Good call on the 3500. AISIN or 68rfe ?

It has the 68 RFE. Up in Canada, when you start getting into the top models with the Aisin, they are just too expensive for my taste. In six years, the previous 6.7/68 RFE gave me zero problems, so I was fine with going with the same combination. If I was getting a dually, I'd get the Aisin, but this one will tow any trailer I'll own for the next 20 years or so. I know you've had good luck with your previous 2011 3500, and I factored that into my decision as well.

Now I can say I've had a Dodge 1500, 2500, and Ram 3500!

thanks!

TOOO MUCH TRUCK!!! While that is a beauty, it is just too much truck for the camper in sig. You will forget you are towing anything, and back up when you shouldn't. ๐Ÿ™‚ Congrats!!
