2011 Jayco 19H quick mods -- so far...

One evening while camping this summer, I saw a parked camper with it's running lights on. I thought to myself, "How cool!" I'm a little slow, so it took a second to realize they had jumpered the connector's running light pin to the hot pin.
A few weeks ago I purchased an aftermarket 7 pin outlet and inline fuse holder (about $13 total at AutoZone). I looked up the pin layout online, used a hacksaw to cut off the adapter's plastic "door", attached a couple connectors to the inline fuse wire ends, attached the inline fuse to the appropriate pins, installed a 10amp fuse and viola! Now I have "red-neck Christmas lights" on my camper!
During our last camping trip the campground hosts stop by to let us know our lights were on... LOL! I unplug them when we retire at night... no need to burn them when we're inside. I'm sure it'll shorten the bulb life a bit... but they look WAY COOL!
There's not much to the project... and was fun to do. I took several pictures of the project, I'll try to post them when I have some free time.
Other additions to our camper...
-
Water Drain Valves - I replaced the endcaps on the water line drains with ball valves. When I leave my campsite (particularly when the nights get cool) I open the valves and open all the faucets to drain most of the water from the system. I do winterize, only not until night temps are down to the mid 20's. In north Georgia that's typically not until mid December or so.
-
Hot Water Drain Valve - I installed a brass cutoff to the hot water heater drain. Now when I leave camp and before I winterize, I just open the valve and let the water drain.
-
Extend-a-Shower Rod - Adds much needed room to the shower when folded out and adds room to the bathroom when folded in. This is a handy upgrade.
-
Outside stereo speakers - From our stereo I fished speaker wire through the wall and out the rear storage door under the bunk beds to a set of outdoor speakers. It's nice to sit around the campsite listening to some good tunes. I installed inline volume controls (one for inside and another for outside) to limit the inside/outside volumes independently.
-
Flat screen LCD TV & DVD player - The TV is mounted to the wall, the DVD fastened to an existing shelf with "L" brackets. The mount is solid and been in place for 3 years. We've enjoyed many rainy afternoons and cool nights watching our favorite movies.
-
Wall mounted shelf/box - To hold DVDs while traveling... Velcro added hold the remotes!
-
Medicine cabinet - I installed strips of wood to the medicine cabinet shelves to prevent goodies from falling when the door is opened after traveling
-
Cornice moulding - Our window cornices are made from plyboard covered with foam & material. They make great shelves for small items, but not while travening. I installed
galley rail moulding around the top to hold everything in place while traveling. I found it at HD for about $15/3ft. It's a little pricy, but the additional shelves are great!
-
Digital thermostat - I installed this last spring. It's kept the camper temps more comfortable (less high/low swings) and provided an indoor thermometer.
Sorry, I have no photos to share... I'll try to get some uploaded.
Happy Camping!
John.
