Toy Hauler Toy Selection

Recently got a toy hauler for reasons other than having a toy...but since we have the capability, considering if we want to get a toy.

We aren't into harleys and are too old and fat for dirt bikes or quads.

We could get a side by side but not sure we would use it enough to justify the hassles when not in an area with a lot of off road trails. It's a smaller toy hauler and the garage is also part of the living space, so it would have to get unloaded most stops.

Ideally, would like something that would be street legal so it could get more use but could do some modest trail riding (like forest roads, not heavy duty stuff like mud bogging or rock crawling).

So far the only thing we've come up with would be a motorcycle with sidecar (high ground clearance version).

Thoughts?

How about a Ural, russian motorcycle, 3 wheel drive with sidecar. Very simple machines and indestructible

A little to big for our rig and a sketchy history of never getting into production...

But could make an interesting toy for a larger toy hauler
- Enclosed, so rain/cold/hot not a big issue.
- Street Legal
- 9" clearance to the body.
- Sporty performance

Now if only they don't fold before actually going into production like they did the last time.

If only they sold in the USA, 50mph top speed and 56mile range. Would qualify as a motorcycle for most US states. Small enough even for a smaller toy hauler and only about 1000lb weight.

There are ways to increase it, quick search for "Can-Am Spyder increase ground clearance" will lead you to those. Easy to get a couple inches, not sure about much more.

We just got a Spyder and it is an excellent choice for toodling around on. Much better choice than a sidecar or regular trike. And much fun too.

Thought about a sling shot but too big to fit, plus heavy.

Can-Am is about the best thought so far. Fits in a relatively small area and low weight.

It is limited to 4.5" ground clearance, so it does qualify as street legal but off road would be pretty limited. Not the end of the world losing off road capability but a consideration.

Now if they made a higher ground clearance version, that would be near ideal.

We have a RZR SxS and love exploring off-road locations. It's also licensed for street use. Lots of trails out there.

If you don't already know what toy you want, then I'd second wopachops recommendation -- go with a pair of mountain bikes (electric or not).

They are street legal for a quick jaunt to town (add rear baskets or even a bike trailer if you want to haul groceries back), or you can take them on trails.

I agree about the electric mountain bikes...hard to find nowadays however. Get the biggest battery you can find.

A couple tw200s strapped down sideways in the back.

Or maybe those new fancy electric mountain bikes.

tough one. I was going to suggest golf cart but that won't be street legal. you can plate/use a SxS in some states but not most. Having to unload every night though, for something you use occassionally would be a deal breaker for me, way too much hassle.

One option is a small 4x4 like a Suzuki Samarai, hard to find though
