07 ford cab clearance

with my tc on my 99 ford i had no issues with the cab over clearance. but on my 07 crew cab it wont clear. on our first trip i jus threw a few 2x10's across the bed floor and strapped her down and rolled out.

i was thinking about using two 2x6 boards as cross beams with a valley cut in them for for the height and centering of the TC. then fill the gaps with pink foam board. also figure i would cut the 2x6's long enough to fit into the factory notches in the bed for boards

jus wanna see what you other ford guys have done. i know its a common problem with ford cabs.

here is a drawing i made to help visualize what i'm tryin to say

It's not the 07 that's the problem as the cab height has remained the same from 1999 to 2013 on the Super Duty. You just got lucky with your 99, as the combo of cab style and drop-in liner snuck it in.

yeah I didn't mean the 07 was a different build I figured I got lucky lol and being new to it there is a whole lot to learn. I figured when we loaded the camper on the new truck it would be close or not possible and I was right hahaha. I your be leaning towards the build the camper up because I'm gonna put 5th wheel rails in to

well on my other truck i had a drop in liner i know that's a no-no but it probably added an inch or so to the bed floor and my 99 wasnt a crew cab, on my CC i have big stamped ribs and clearence lights on the top of the cab. at least those are the only difference i can see

there wasnt a whole lot of room on my 99 but it never hit the cab. the 07 is darn near touching after loading and im sure during travel it would hit the cab

If you don't want to deal with adding a riser to the bed that you need to deal with separatlly, you can install some 2x4s to the bottom of your camper.

This is what I did. 2.5" x 5" aluminum tube with 2.5" rigid insulation to fill the holes. I then place a rubber truck mat on top and have not had any issues with the camper moving in two years.

I fastened 2 X 4's to bottom of the TC. Installed them around the perimeter and down the center. With the 3 1/2 inch space now under the TC, I ran a tube from fresh tank drain to back of the TC. I can drain fresh tank while TC is in the truck, and not get truck bed wet.

This is what I did to solve the clearage problem with my 2007 F250 carrying my 2002 Lance815.

Using 2x4 studs and plywood, as you can see from the photo I also made space for two slide out trays.

At the tailgate end I used a couple of L brackets and inserted them into the bed tie downs, the wood blocks limits side wize motion. This setup gives me 4 inches of cab clearage which has proven itself during my back country/ off roading adventures.

i have an '07 ford and found that 3" foam is best to keep the cabover from impacting the truck when offroading.
The way i did it:

i used monster 2" velcro to attach 3" extruded polystryene (XPS) foam to the underside of the camper (1 less thing to deal w/ as its attached to the camper). Velcro makes removal easy (if i ever need to do it). I water-proofed using eternabond double sided tape (between foam and camper) and finished edges with 3" lexan corner guard (to protect the edges). An aluminum sheet protects the bottom side of the foam.

I plan on custom fabricating some low profile toolboxes that will act as centering guides (wheel-well and forward) and provide useful storage.

I'm surprised that it fit the 99 but not the 07. When Ford went to the Super Duty in 99 they made the cab taller but I didn't realize that they made it taller since that time. Well learn something new every day.

To answer your question I would see no problem with what you are looking at just keep a lookout on the bottom of the camper tub and make sure that the foam doesn't collapse and let more of the weight set on the 2X6. I used the pink foam in my 2002 Chevy to get over my 5th wheel plates with a Northern Lite. Just make sure you get you bed mat to fit on top of all of it or it could very easily slide aroiund some.

ON EDIT: Looks like Gripnriprod beat me to it. I'm a slow typer and make a lot of mistakes.

One thing you might want to consider is the foam board will compress while the 2X6's won't thus leaving two relatively narrow strips of contact especially during travel.
