The good news is a pump from AC is only 150 bucks plus my labor putting it on. Not that big of a deal.
If you are changing the pump make sure to also flush the fluid, you will be amazed at how ugly the old stuff has gotten and you may find that fresh fluid will greatly improve your current steering. See this link and the PDF in it for a method a bunch of us have used. I did my LBZ two years ago and it made a big difference with power steering feel and noise.
