I read an interesting thread titled 5th wheel hitch questions in the Fifth-Wheels forum. It contains a post from TucsonJim with an informative video link about Andersen Ultimate fifth wheel hitches which are Gooseneck. They connect to the ball with an adapter on the pin and put the trailer 9 inches to the rear which in turn limits the chances of contact with your truck.

I was impressed. Check out the video in the quote from that thread.

You'll lots of different recommendations on classic fifth wheel hitches in this forum. Most of these hitches are classic designs and have been around for years. The problem with them is that they are very heavy which takes away from the payload in your truck. I belong to several other RV related forums where the word has gotten out about Andersen Ultimate fifth wheel hitches. They only weigh 30-35 pounds! When you configure it with the ball mounted towards the rear, it gives you an extra 9" of clearance which eliminates the need for a slider hitch. Check out the video below and you might decide to go with one of them.

Thanks for the link, I'll pass it on.

Experience without good judgment is worthless; good judgment without experience is still good judgment!

Your friend had a chassis cab then!!! Chris

And that happened in late 10' yr models.

You are correct. My 2010 Cab Chassis did not have DEF. His friend did not have a 2009 if he has DEF. I believe this poster is getting DEF and DPF confused.

Thanks for the info folks and I have one more question relating to 5th wheel and goose neck hitches; the truck came with what appears to be a goosneck hitch in the bed which is common in this area for horse trailers, etc.

They will be installing a slider hitch for a 5th wheel so I assume the gooseneck hitch must be removed, correct?

Nope!
They have a couple of options in the Anderson Ultimate, and the B&W Companion hitches. Maybe even one it two more I'm not aware of. Both above mentioned have great reputations.

What he is saying is there are a few hitches that utilize the already installed gooseneck hitch. Use them instead of adding another element

OK, thanks, and sorry for the dumb question, I know nothing about these type of hitches.

If it has it, it's not like my 2016 which has the DEF fill next to the diesel fuel fill. I'll check the manual thought when they come back over.

Tell them to drive it like they stole it. Those vintage 6.7s need to be worked hard most of the time. Chris

Overall great trucks. Make sure all applicable recalls have been addressed: https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/recalls.html

Some common problems: O2 sensors throwing CEL, seat heaters malfunctioning, intermittent radio shutdowns, steering column/linkage play...

Birds climbing into the front wheel wells and building nests...I guess this is unique to me, but still a big PITA!

No def but EGR cooler cleaning, crankcase vent filter replacement at 67,500 miles. pay attention to coolant requirements, different years different coolants as listed in the diesel supplement.
