2012 Chevy Duramax Stabilitrak

So my 2012 D/A 2500 has the service stabilitrak light on. It came on 2 months ago after sitting in extreme heat of a parking lot in Orlando. Been fine in NY ever since. Now today 87 degrees and truck baked all day and the light is back on? Is it enough to take to a dealer?

You can buy ones that ABS/ECM/BCM. I have one in my garage. Reads transmission, wheel sensor, stabilitrak and real time data. It was 180 dollars. There are tons out there that do that.
Some VW required the use of VAG Com, but these have those scanners too.

You do not need manufacture specific to read codes. If you wish to program a sensor (CPS, steering position sensor etc) in a GM you need GM Tech2 or something like HP tuners which I have for the WS6.

When my did that, it ended up being the TCM.

Went there twice with 2 different trucks. Whatever codes they pulled out were totally not related to problems that were found. They wanted to sell me a bunch of parts that would have fixed nothing. maybe it was their interpretation of the codes that was off.

When I had that issue, mine was the steering angle sensor (or steering wheel position sensor). Good luck!

The basic OBD code readers can only get to the ECU. The other modules like ABS and Body Control require manufacturer specific protocols that your typical AutoZone reader can't get to. If you don't want to go to the dealership I would go to a diesel shop at least.

The code dont change just cause Bubba at Autozone pulled it. Get the code and GTS (Google That ****...)

Getting the code read at a place like Autozone starts you down a good path and it is free.

I have a really good ABS/OBDII reader. OP you will need one that does ABS as well and is CANBUS ready.


This is the way if you are a savvy DIYer, ls1mike is correct -it does take a decent code reader/scanner to trouble shoot the system problems the OP has. Oreillys and Autozone seem to be the best for getting scans at least in my area.

Maybe a drivability issue would warrant a trip to the dealer. A Code is a Code when it is OBDII. Now what you do to troubleshoot it might be different if it is like a P300 are something like that where the code could be from multiple issues.

Getting the code read at a place like Autozone starts you down a good path and it is free.

Not enough info to help. Get the trouble codes read by an auto parts store and get back to us...
I don't put much stock in the codes you get from an auto parts store. Inexpensive scanners read by former fast food workers. I would spend a few bucks and get a proper diagnosis from a qualified technician, but that's just me.
