We've found an F-150 Eco-boost with 300 miles on it. Someone bought it but couldn't qualify so it's considered a roll-over and is being sold as used. It's under full warranty, minus those 300 miles. It's not fully loaded but has a factory brake controller and a crew cab and enough of what we want that we'd be happy with it. GVWR 7800#, payload between 1280# and 1550# (I can't remember.)They're asking mid-$30s for it. Question #1: We know nothing about trucks, but from what I"m seeing, that seems like a decent price. Is it?Question #2: How do we determine the maximum hitch weight it can handle? There's nothing in the manual or on on the door-post.As always, thanks.

That sounds like a decent price. Look under the hitch and the rating should be stamped into the receiver. It is most likely 1050 or 1200 lbs This is a much better truck than you have been looking at If it has p rated tires see if you can get the dealer to swap them out to an LT tire. Payload is probably at least 1500 lbs Make sure the axle is at least the 3:55 the dealer can tell you very quickly. This will handle the trailer you have posted in your other threads with no problem.

The door post will have a "Tire loading information label" It's black and yellow.On it is a number called "occupant and cargo capacity" (or similar).That is EVERYTHING the truck is rated to carry. You mention between 1280# and 1550#. That label will have the number for THAT truck.Subtract you and hubby, hitch weight plus anything else in the truck from that number.What is left is your LOADED pin weight available.(Hint, for a 7800# F150 it won't be much)Using your max number of 1550# I suggest you will have under 1000# for the fiver pin. (Closer to 700# if it is the 1280# number!)Not many fivers have a GVWR of 5000#!My opinion only, but that truck is not suitable for an average fiver. It is limited to very small and light units only. You would be a little better off, but still limited, if it was the HD/Max tow version with 8200#GVWR.I suggest you forget "1/2 tons" if you want to pull a typical fiver. Great truck Margaret. With a GVWR of 7,800 lbs does it have the Max Tow package? I believe the receivers are all the same on the F150 from the Factory. Should handle 1000 ish lbs with weight distribution. Sounds like the truck to make your towing experience much better. Should do much better than 13 mpg that your old SUV was getting. The F150's IMHO... drive great and are the most nimble of the half tons IMHOThanks!Jeremiah

Around here, there are lots of new 2014 F150s being sold a fairly large discounts. I would look for a large volume retailer. They tend to have the best deals. If nothing else, you can use their advertised prices to negotiate with a more local dealer.

MargaretB, with a 6,000 lb. loaded travel trailer weight, and 780 lb. loaded hitch weight, the F-150 you are looking at will be a great match for you.

Didn't see one, except this. All the others for less $$$ had 40,000+ miles on them.

Max hitch weight rating is on the hitch. MAX for none Max Tow is 10,500 tow weight/1,050 Tongue weight. Max Tow is 1,150 Tow weight/1,150 Tongue weight. Now the tongue weight holds true but the "truck's Max" tow weight is determined by the trucks configuration, mine is 9300 lbs.

Don't forget to test drive a similarly configured Ecoboost and 5.0L back to back, I like the 5.0L much better.

This is an Ecoboost. And it's pretty much at the top of our budget. What makes it attractive to us is that it's almost brand-new and affordable. Bigger/tricked-out with low miles isn't.

Also if it's used, no rebates can be used on it and you may get better deal on a NEW 2014 truck that has rebates.

In my area about 3 months ago, rebates on a 2014 XLT Crew 4WD Eco were $7,000 with trade assistance rebate. With my X plan, that brings total price down about $10,000 under MSRP. That's roughly invoice minus the rebates. You couldn't sell me a 2015 F150 with the possibilities of dissimilar metal corrosion with aluminum body panels on a steel frame. Salt, road grime, and debris. How long will those special fasteners last, that are suppose to combat that Galvanic corrosion.:R

Most common issue for all TV's is the Rear GAWR vs tongue weight

Why the bigger TV's has such a large Rear GAWR

Plus she is looking at a crew cab, which will eat up the ratings without loading
stuff in/on the bed and receiver

At least she is now looking at the bigger half ton's now...but as with
most half tons (except for the fake half ton) their Rear GAWR will
be in the 4K range vs next higher class will have Rear GAWR's in the 6K-7K range

I agree. I bought a 2014 F 150 ecoboost brand new 5 months ago.
They were offering $8000 below msrp.
That is what I got for. I paid under $31K.
Then they went to $10K under msrp.
Now that the 2015's are coming around, they should be really dealing on the 14's.

Sorry, my bad. I confused this poster with someone else.
To the OP - that truck will be OK with a small TT. If the tongue weight is over 500# you will need to add a weight distributing hitch.
