Help guys.
I'm looking to buy a new f 150 v6. Towing max is 6300 with gcwr 11700. Payload capacity is 1620. The TT that I'm interested is 4750 and will load it with gear n without any water. I'm looking at 5300-5500 of weight. Is this to much for the truck please advice
Thanks

Also, watch the Max Tow options on the truck. Ford is calling the towing option Max Tow now, and it really isn't the best towing package available, as the cargo rating is less than 1700 pounds. The big towing package will be over 2200 pounds, and it will come with 7 lug wheels and the nice tow mirrors, along with the equipment underneath you need to get that big rating.

Mine is a 2013, but my Max Tow has a 1794 lb. payload and the tow mirrors. The 7 lug wheels and 2,200+ payload comes with the Heavy Duty Payload package.
Mine is a 2011 Max Tow, 6 lug with over 1 ton of payload. The difference is with the options. More bells and whistles the less payload.

Why don't you read the towing specs and stay safe instead of looking for personal opinions?

A very small percentage of F150 trucks have the base 3.7 V6. Almost all come with the 5.0 V8 or the 3.5 EcoBoost V6. The cost of the upgraded engines depends on which trim line you are buying. The Lariat comes standard with the 5.0 and the Eco is less than $1000 more (it was a $700 option when I bought mine in 2011). I forget which engine is standard in the XLT trim, but if it is still the 3.7, then a upgrade to the 5.0 would be less cost than buying a 5.0 in the base XL trim line. Often it is to your advantage to go up a trim level than to buy a bunch of options and still get the lower trim.

Either way, having the base 3.7 in a truck will hurt you when it comes time to sell it or trade it in down the road.

Also, watch the Max Tow options on the truck. Ford is calling the towing option Max Tow now, and it really isn't the best towing package available, as the cargo rating is less than 1700 pounds. it would do fine if I could get a running start at the hill but if I had to start the climb from a dead stop it would struggle. It would be poor acceleration, high rpms all the way up. I crawled up the hill. There are 2 places on I believe it's 42 that I prayed for a green light.

If you decide to go to something larger in a TT you will have to also change PUs. Why not buy a larger PU now and you can tow anything later.

Went from an F150 to an F350 two weeks ago... for just that reason. We might upgrade the camper at some point and when we do we're covered.

LOL, not enough truck to control the trailer, I am sure it will pull it but not control it.

Unless towing is only going to be a very rare occurrence, I would save a bit and come up with the extra $1000 or whatever to get the V8. I expect the 3.7 would be adequate, but I probably wouldn't want to tow a lot with it.

The 3.7 is a great engine, and I wouldn't be concerned pulling a 5K boat or flatbed trailer, but I wouldn't pull a 5K TT.

Travel Trailers are some of the hardest type of trailer to pull. Huge wind catchers. I'd step up to the 5.0 V8 (if you go Ford) and not look back. The extra cost is worth it every time you are pulling the huge brick wall down the road.

I had a 2012 Ford F-150 with 3.7 litre v6 ext cab and just recently purchased my Ford crew cab 5.0 litre. I would go with the 8 or Eco. Never can have too much engine. The six will work. Really work. My 8 laughs at my TT. Just my thoughts.

I used to have a 4.6L V8 F-150 towing 6000lbs and the hills north of SA challenged it. It would struggle from New Braunsfel to Guadalupe SP on is it 83?

Thanks guys for the input. I will definitely think about it before making my decision. I live in San antino texas. I mainly will tow it to the coast around some state parks. I know we don't have mountains so hopefully that's not a problem
Thanks

The match will work but you may not like it depending on where/how you tow. Won't be good in mountains and you might wish for more truck on longer trips but for weekends at the lake or other local travel it will do just fine.
