2014 Ram 2500 diesel yearly maintenance cost

Hello,

I'm thinking of trading in my 2015 1500 Hemi for a 2014 2500 Diesel. I'm mainly getting it because I plan on upgrading to a 5th wheel soon. This truck would also be my daily driver. I'm concerned about the yearly maintenance costs moving to a diesel. I put on about 20,000 miles a year. What is a typical oil and filter change cost for the diesel? How often does this need to be done? Is there other yearly costs I need to be aware of? I do about 2 or 3 weeks towing the camper in the summer and my parents will be using the 5th to snowbird. I will be towing for them from Pennsylvania to Florida. Is a diesel worth the extra money compared to a gas? Any other additional information would be appreciated?

Since you are talking "DODGE" it had to be 2012 or older. So that statement still needs to be clarified as to the year.

Oops..... I was thinking how GM and Ford just add an overload spring to the heavy duty 3/4 ton to make it a 1 ton srw. I didn't realize Ram did things different. My main point, however, is that the diesel 3/4 ton is heavy and with a 10,000 lb gvwr it only has about 1700 lbs of payload. Load up a family and you can only pull a tent trailer before you go over the gvwr.
Depends on the year you are talking about. Pulled a 32' Montana with a gvw of 12,100# with a 2500 with a gvw of 9k and was not ever over the trucks axles, gvw or gcvw. You sir can beleive what you want to.

Actually the new '17 and up Ford F350 has a different rear end and spring pack compared to a F250.

And RAM 3500 has a leaf spring pack compared to the 2500 coils and different rear frame section to provide clearance for the coil springs.

I have the 5-link coil rear suspension and a set of Timbrens. My 5er is 16,000lbs GVWR and the truck handles it extremely well. I've never run over a scale so I can't tell you if I'm within weight police compliance. I CAN tell you there is no excess squat and the whole setup handles very nicely .

Don’t get me wrong, if buying again or new for sure at least a one ton SRW, but only for the listed GVWR! I can’t safely go to BC Canada as the go strictly by manufacturer GVWR.
That said our Dodge Ram 2500 carries our 12,360# GVWR 5er just fine without any suspension enhancements, just factory camper package!

No wonder the OP left the building on page 1!

Troubled waters, you ever drive one of these trucks? I have, in the Arctic, parked on a sheet of ice at night at -40. No supplemental heat. Plugged in, let er warm up high idle and wdh brake on 10-15min= toasty ride across the tundra.
Back in the good ole civilized L48 it'll warm up too on a frosty winters morning even if the owner doesn't garage it.

YOU are the person always recommending mods that can void warranty without mentioning that it's a possibility doing so.


No I don't. I don't go out of my way to recommend mods about every post that brings up stock power like you bring up warranty or dire consequences every time there is a post about mods or someone not following factory specs. I talk about my mods and bring up topics about mods for those that wish to do them, but I don't tell people what they should or shouldn't do with their own truck unless they ask. Huge difference there. I believe people here in this forum are grown up enough to make their own decisions without having to get lectured constantly.

Then there is the hypocrisy of brow beating someone anytime there is a post about deviating from factory specs or recommendation when the person that always tends to do the brow beating deviates from factory specs themselves.

It is like that grumpy old man that thinks so little of others and doesn't think anyone is doing things right just because they aren't doing it his way, so he has to go out of his way lecture people about how he thinks they should do things. Don't be that guy, no one likes him at the RV park.
