2015 F-150 Payload

I looked at the new F-150s yesterday and was quite surprised at the payloads. A new XLT crewcab optioned pretty much like my 2013 (4x4, 36 gallon tank, skid plates, some power options but not decadent) had almost 1900 pounds payload, my 2013 has 1319. I wonder if the receiver has a higher rating than the 1050-1130 pounds of the previous trucks (I didn't crawl under and look). If not with these high payloads a fella might tongue out before he payloads out, the way people now often payload out before they pull out.

In any event though I was prepared to buy a new truck it didn't call out to me; it was nice but not a different thing, know what I mean? As I sat in the new truck I thought "Damn, for this money (50K) we should buy a new Boxster, sell the camper and stay in hotels". Or maybe a new Mustang ragtop with the Ecoboost four.

Brought my new 2014 Ecoboost home yesterday. Started out looking at the 2015 but the deals just weren't there like on a similarly equipped 2014. Picked up and XLT, Supercrew 4x4, 3.55 electronic locking axle, tow pkg,302A option pkg,HID headlamps, leather buckets with console, remote start and more for about $15,000 off the window sticker after rebates and incentives from Ford totalling $7500, $5050 off from the dealer and I refused to pay for dealer adds that amounted to $3100 including the remote start, tint, bedliner, wheel locks, pinstriping, door edge giuards, paint treatment and so on. Sticker was $51,195 and its not even a Lariat or Platinum! And they gave me $13,000 for my 2006 F-150 2WD XLT Supercab in trade. I think I did pretty good compared to a 2015 with only $3000 off and a $1000 rebate.

Ford does it every year though, come sept-dec, there will be heavy discounts on the 2015's.

Besides with a new model, might was well wait for some of the bugs to be ironed out.

Got my 2013 F150 max tow XLT, pretty well equipped with 34 miles on it last year for $33k ($43k sticker)

I've got #1900 payload with a #7700 GVWR.

Works for me.. 🙂

With the MaxTow option, Hitch Receiver rating is up to 1220# (an F250 gasser's is 1250#). And with the HD Payload option you can get even more payload in certain configurations.

But the 2015s are still expensive by my standards. I'm seeing much heavier discounts locally on any left-over 2014s and even on the 2015 Superduties.

Note that the F-150 I'm talking about was equipped with the simple tow package and not with an optional payload package.

Yes, it is all with the base model GVWR - actual = payload

My Silverado has a 6,200 GVWR - weight ticket 5,160 = 1,040 payload

Back then, 'Silverado', was a trim level (highest) and the model was C10
Today's highest trim will have power door lock, power windows, power
seats and much more insulation. My Silverado has AC, automatic and
instead of cardboard like panels...vinyl covered cardboard like panels

But Nephew and I were in there, so 180 x 2 = 360. Cap is about 300 lbs
360 + 300 = 660. Plus misc tools, coolant, oil, jack, etc of about 60 lbs
660 + 60 = 720

1,040 + 720 = 1,760 payload without the people and 'stuff'

This is for a 1980 C10 'Big Ten' (AKA...1980's HD of it's day)...IF I
had a current 1500 stripper and the 'HD' GVWR of ~7,800...I'd have
several hundred pounds more 'payload'...maybe over 2,400 payload

My Friend has a 2014 Silverado LT Crew Cab 5.3. Nice truck, mid level trim and he has about 1900 lbs of payload.

You can get a significant amount of payload in a half ton if you option it out right.

Thanks!

Friend has 150 max tow and max cargo and even he says that my 2500 Chevy has a better ride and I agree with him. I test drove one with just Max Tow and rides slightly better than my Chevy 2500 but not a huge difference. What I did notice is the 150 you hear less road noise.

I see nothing to gain by that. IMO an F-150 serves much better as a day to day "car" than a Super Duty does.

And one can always buy a much cheaper F-150 work truck with rubber floors, crank windows etc. My F-150s before my 2013 were always austere trucks like that and I liked them, but my wife isn't so keen on trucks like that so for camping a nicer truck is in order.

X2

That is precisely why I stick with the F-150s. I will be replacing our 2009 in about a year when the 2016 F-150s hit the market.

The new F150's are aluminum bodied which saves over 600lbs in weight allowing for higher payloads.
