2015 Ford F150 going Unibody???

Article here

Does anyone think this might be on the mark? Has anyone read this anywhere else? I see this is an old article -- April 1 in fact -- were they trying to pull an April Fools? I knew there was going to be some aluminum body panels in the 2015 redesign, but hadn't heard about it being unibody.

The article suggests reduction of payload and towing capacity with this alleged change, which of course, would be logical for a unibody truck. I was thinking of buying a 2015 F150 with MaxTow, but if this article turns out to be correct, I may instead buy a 2014. If this perchance is true, is Ford trying to move sales for anyone that tows more than a utility trailer, into the Super Doodie line?
  • I knew a man years ago that had one of those 60's model one body. If I recall it was not a true unibody. It had a full frame under it. Only the body sat on it in one piece. It was still sitting in the yard the last time I traveled down Al 13 in Natural Bridge.
  • Yeah but in the '60s, trucks were designed with a drafting board and a slide rule.

Today they are CAD designed with extensive computer simulation testing done on the structure before they even go to prototype stage. Much more sophisticated. Weak points are easily predicted and identified.

There would be no TECHNICAL reason that a unibody pickup could not be designed to be just as strong as a body-on-frame. If not stronger.

It's just people's old-fashioned proclivities that if it's unibody, it can't possibly be any good now because they weren't any good in the 1960s.

Ford will never try a unibody F150 because they know the frankly ignorant buying public would reject it outright without even giving it a chance.
  • Ford would have to retool the assmbly lines to do it. Son works at the KC asembly plant and he would have heard about it by now if it was true.

    Like. :)

    Ford F-150 unibody? Fairly convincing.

Never know what to really think since the "New Coke" debacle.
    Corporations have no soul.

Also liked the Honda video ad. :B

  • the 2015 prototypes that are rolling around are body on frame. No worries about unibody for the next generation.
  • Yes, it was a hoax.
