I leave mine in Alt ride ALL the time. I have not tried it but when unhitching you can place system in transport mode and it will drop down solid. The trans mode will keep the system from trying to adjust it's self when taking the load off the truck when removing RV. I just wait a moment for the system to adjust and then adjust the RV again then unlatch. Then after unhitching it will automatically go to normal ride height as soon as you start driving it. I don't do this because I LIKE the level ride of Alt mode. Only way Alt ride will activate is to have a small load in the bed.
