30 to 50 Amp

Absolutely OK. Many do it that way (with an adaptor) because the 50 amp receptacle usually has less wear and is a more secure connection.

Just curious, why would you want to go from 30amp to 50 amp? It is possible, yes and safe to do so.

Of course, many of us carry a 50 amp male > 30 amp female dogbone adapter just for that reason.

Occasionally some sites may offer only 50 amp service, other times the 30 amp service contacts may be badly worn or pitted, in which case one could instead plug into 50 amp service using a dogbone adapter.

Yep, our first trip out next weekend is to a State Park only about an hour from the house. And all the 30 amp sites are already filled up. But got a 50 amp site, and just wanted to verify what I had already thought.

Every 50 amp site I've been at also have 30 amp and 15 amp service on the same pedestal. 30's have 30's and 15.

My TT is 50 AMP so I don't have a need for 50 to 30 dogbone, but I do use a 30M to 50FM dogbone when I am at 30 amp sites.

Probably a good idea to have the 50M to 30FM dogbone, just in case the 50 AMP site you go do does NOT also have a collocated 30AMP.

Nope, not always ... I know of several 50 amp only sites and here in Canada I've yet to see a 20 amp drop, just 15 amp, the point being that there are always exceptions when what you may expect just isn't available. ;)

I tried to be clear that I was talking about every site I've been to, not every site period.

I also stated that it probably was a good idea to have said dogbone for the cases where it may not be true.

I've edited my post to say 15.. I had 20 on the brain, as I was also doing some discussions on my 20 amp wired shop.

I have, a few times, had a campsite that had only a 50 amp service - only! Not even a 15-20 either. It's those times, I'm glad I have to 50 to 30 amp dogbone.

For the OP: yes, pick one up and keep it tucked away in your camper. About the time you swear you'll never use it, ... bingo! You're going to need it!

Plus.... If you are on a site that has both 50 and 30 service, you can always run the 30 amp to your camper, plug in the 50 to 30, and then get a 30 to 20 plugged into that. You can run extension cords everywhere!

That's how I was able to plug in ALL of this for a Christmas in July contest (and won first prize!)

I think what the OP meant was a 50 to 30 amp converter....not the other way around.
