7735LM Rand McNally GPS

I am thinking about buying the 7735LM GPS. I really like the idea of having all the camp grounds etc on it as well as the road guidance. Has anyone bought and used one of these. I would love some feed back

I started with the 7710 which was one of the first that Rand came out with. I still have it but also got a 7735 from Good Sam and like it equally well. Prior to these I had a computer in the truck and used Streets and Trips.

I purchased a Good Sams 7735LM in December. Just used it on a two month road trip. Hope you didn't purchase one. Worst GPS you could get. It does not like left turns unless there is a dedicated left turn lane with a traffic light. Sent me out of my way by 14 miles because of this. Had many other similar left turn issues. Twice sent me past the campground, told me to make a U turn and come back so I could make a right into the campground. It also does not like if you don't follow its exact route and will try to route you back to the point you deviated from (ie: stop for gas 100 miles down the road heading north and it will send you back 100 miles south) If you did purchase ths unit, please be aware of the problems. Rand McNally will do nothing for you.

I have an old TomTom unit that has served me well, but I want to upgrade to an RV specifc GPW unit and have been reading these threads about the RVND and Garmin debate with interest.
Seems that is another Ford vs GMC vs Ram debate. Pick your poison understanding that none are without their flaws.

I have a RVND 7710 and have had Garmin and Magellan in the past. The RVND's are head and shoulders above the other RV based GPS's. Go with the RVND.

And for the other side. We purchased a Rand McNally unit and couldn't stand it. I sold it for pennies on the dollar and purchased a Garmin which works much better in my opinion. No more ridiculous routes that the Rand tried to take us on.

I'd suggest you look each unit up on Amazon and look at the ratings from purchasers. It's quite eye opening.

I'm on my second Rand unit. The last one fell and cracked the screen,. We drove over 100 miles to replace it. We won't leave home without it. I replaced the screen on the old one so we now have a spare. The campground feature is excellent but one of the most used is the fuel stations location. I use travel centers because of the size of my unit and I like truck lanes. This thing finds them in a couple of key strokes.

With any GPS unit they have their warts and can lead you down the wrong path. However, the part that told me I could not use a road due to propane restrictions or low underpasses was invaluable.

We have an early edition of the 7700 series. We like it very much. The campground location feature has helped a lot. We normally wait until we get close to end of day, then poke in campgrounds of our desired type listed from where we are. It comes up with the campgrounds within seconds.
You can input your rig size and it works to avoid low structure and prohibited streets.
It has not sent us down any miss directed roads like the small Garmins we have.

When we researched RV GPS units it seemed most people preferred the Garmin RV760LMT so that's what we went with and are very happy.
