AC Main Vent Closed????

I have a 15,000 btu ac unit that is ducted throughout the trailer. The main unit has the capability to close the vent on it which forces more air thru the ductwork. My camper is a 37' TT with the ac unit almost dead center. It seems to more evenly distribute air with the vent on the main unit closed. Since the main vent is capable of being closed I assume what I'm doing wont hurt the ac unit (it was seemingly designed for this purpose???). Anyone have knowledge or run a similar setup?

Jack, I would not recommend closing any of the ducted vents. Doing do reduces system air flow and can lead to the A/C freezing up. If you are getting too cool - raise the thermostat a degree or two.

I agree since most systems have the minimum number required.

  • We open ours initially to fast cool the main area and then close the vent after a while to deliver cold air to the bath and bedroom area. Our duct system works very well to the point where we close at least one vent and sometimes two in the bedroom area. 35 ft TT.

We never open our's, it stays closed.
  • Thanks for the input. My previous TT was only a 23' and didn't even have ductwork. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't gonna burn up the ac unit.
  • Ceiling grill is called 'chill grill' because it dumps majority of cold air directly down and will cool that area quickly.........but very little cold air will flow thru ducts.

Close the ceiling grill vents so that cold air can flow thru ducts and cool the rest of RV

Besides......with the chill grill open it is VERY NOISY
  • The vent you are talking about is when open to quick cool the living room. you still get some air throughout the rest of the trailer but not a lot of volume.
