The aforementioned article was written over four years ago, so it does not necessarily apply to new trucks today. It certainly applied to my 2000 F250, which thanks to its Camper package it is identical to the same year F350. One thing I picked up on Ford's website is that apparently the gas F250 use a six speed Torqshift-G transmission while all F350s have the 10 speed. Even if every other nut and bolt were identical that alone would be reason enough to get a F350.

From the SuperDuty build site: "All Super Duty® models (except the 6.2L V8 F-250) now feature a new standard Ford TorqShift® 10-speed automatic transmission".

So only the 6.2 comes with a 6 speed and the 7.3 F250 the op was looking at had a 10 speed.

Ask your friend that the dealer, better yet ask one of his mechanics or parts people. "I believe it's got a bigger rear axle" you believe in correctly the parts book will confirm it. It likely has 3:55 gears but could have 3:73 lower could be special ordered.

He said 7.3 at a dealership. That makes it the new godzilla. Not a 2003. Figured you'd know that since you seem to be the "expert". But anyone advocating for buying F250, putting all the money in it to make it a F350 and then lie by re-badging it, when they could just buy a f350, has no opinion I'd consider worth anything. OP is talking about a NEW truck and while both the 250s and 350s are largely the same, 350s and duallys get heavier rear axles (and of course springs). Aside from the axles you’re correct though IMO. And the axle thing don’t mean shtick unless you’re putting more pin weight on a 250 than any LT tire is good for anyways.

Ford/Lincoln/Mercury mechanic for years and owned super duties since 1999. Pick a part and et a part number, same for ether truck.

Just go in, ask for the sales manager and order what you want. I feel like I get a better price that way in most cases.
