- PAThwackerExplorerDid the pup and htt with a 5.3 3.42 ratio in our SWB TB.
Not a good towing setup regardless of the 300hp half ton powertrain. - Sport45Explorer IIOur '05 TB has a 3.73 axle behind the 4.2. I melted/plugged the cat when I tried hauling a '83 F-100 on a U- Haul trailer. In hindsight I was 1000# or a bit more overweight and the truck caught a lot of air being so far above the TB roofline. Pulled good until the cat plugged...about an hour away from home with two hours to go.
No problems with the smaller trailers I've had behind it. So be sure to keep it within its ratings. - lbrjetExplorerI don't remember the 6 having anything but the 3.42 axle. I used to have an 05 Envoy. I think with the 8 you could 3.73's. Have never heard of 410's in the TB/envoy. Mine had a 500 TW limit with W/D.
- jfkmkExplorerI tow a 3500# 17' TT with a 4.2 swb 3.73 Envoy. I've added an auxiliary trans cooler, HD shocks and use a WD hitch. While I'm very happy with the set up, and I can tow all day long with no problem, I don't think I'd want to go too much larger on the trailer. I get a steady 12 mpg towing in third gear at 60-65 mph.
- mboppExplorerGood luck finding a 410 TB / Envoy.
Our HTT weighed 3800# empty, and the '04 I-6 Envoy I had was marginal with just 2 adults. Too many major repairs made me trade it early on the F150 I now have.
