Arctic Fox 811

Thinking of purchasing a new 811. I would like to know how high the camper is while on the truck. I would order it with the low profile Mach 8 9K BTU A/C. TV antenna they use now could be higher then A/C. I have not checked on that. Just want to make sure it will fit in garage we plan to purchase.

Thanks, Jeff Drennan

I'm not too afraid of being a little over ratings (other than tire ratings, and I can go up to the 285/75/18 size on my rims or higher rated ones and get 4080lbs/tire) but I don't want to be at 8k on the rear axle either. Looking mostly at the 811 or the adventurer 89RBS, the artic fox is a little nicer and better looking inside IMO, but the adventurer seems to be lighter also.

Honestly, if you're running 4000lb tires, the only potential weak link is the OE rims. Published rated capacities are hard to find, but it's been generally accepted that they're typically rated 3500-3600lbs for most aluminum wheels (same for typical aftermarket wheels). I say potential, because one of the few primary things that have a very large factor of safety is wheels in my experience. I'm in an industry where we beat the snot our of 100s or 1000s of light duty trucks daily, as well as my own experiences hauling heavy on srw trucks for many miles and lots of less than ideal road conditions. I have a good deal of confidence in newer OE wheels close to or at 4000lbs/wheel.
The axle itself is rated for 10klbs, 7500-8k is not stressing it and the rest of the chassis is the same as a dually. Frame, brakes, spring hangers, etc.
That said, it WILL NOT handle as well as a dually, even with the proper upgrades. The narrower track width is the main factor here.
However I do not feel unsafe with it, just have to know the limitations, which is start paying attention to the suggested speeds around curves that you'd normally blow by in in unladen vehicle.

Have you ever weighed your truck? Stock tires? I'm looking to move into a single slide truck camper on my 2018 3500 MegaCab also, and I'm trying to decide between a few different models. I really like the 811, I'm just worried about weight.

You'll be well over most/all the published "limits" and under the practical limits, save for OE tires/rims.

Figure 4000-4500lbs depending on full vs empty and how much you load in it. That's what others report from scales and what I've roughly calced from airbag psi to get to origianl ride height.
That said I've hauled AF 860s (same as 811 basically) on OE 17" wheels and now on OE Ram 20" wheels (on my 07 2500 Mega), both with OE Firestones and slightly higher rated tires. All without issue.
I'm aware that I'm at or a little over the tire's rated capacity.
Couple runs cross country, up to AK, all over AK and the western US mountains including plenty of forest roads and dirt roads. Tires have held up fine.

We're right at 12' ('16 Ram Dually Mega-Cab). We have factory air which is usually set at normal height.

The camper is about 9’ tall plus the height of your truck bed. It should be about 12’ overall based on how tall your truck sits and how much it squats under load.

It's going to depend on the truck bed height which will vary. I'm 12'6" or 12'7"

860 (old version of 811) on Dodge 4x4 sitting level on 34" tires is about 11'-9" with no AC. With full height AC it would barely clear a 12' door with the rear suspension squatted down (no air).
The new AF's have a curved roof that appears to make the overall height a few inches taller that the older flat roof models.

It’s probably between 12- 12’6” on a Ford. I’m sure someone will probably post what their height is.
